To Glammy’s House We Go!

“To Glammy’s house we go, to Glammy’s house we go. Hi-ho-hip-hooray, to Glammy’s house we go!”

Two of the grandkids are visiting with us for spring break. We went to pick them up over the weekend. They were waiting in the driveway for us when we arrived and we could see them jumping up and down with excitement from half a block away! Little did they know, Poppa and Glammy were jumping up and down on the inside!!! Oh, what joy those little arms wrapped around our necks bring to us.

They were ready to leave as soon as we arrived although we planned on staying a couple of nights at their house. Ellie had packed her suitcase three days before so she would make sure she was ready when we got there! She had us sit down and make a list of everything we were going to do this week:

Play hide and seek (Poppa’s favorite)

Mickey Mouse pancakes

Ride four-wheelers

Bake chocolate chip cookies (for the best recipe, click here.)

Play go-fish

Go to the duck pond

Go in the hot tub

Sleep on a pallet in the floor of Glammy’s room

The funny thing is that this list could’ve been made in the last 10 trips. They love to do all of those things listed and I love that they have traditions and expectations when they come to Glammy and Poppa’s house.

I love that they think my cookies are the best. I love that they hide in the same spots over and over for hide and go seek. I love that they always request their favorite meal (chicken nuggets, mac and cheese, green beans, and strawberries). I just love that we are making memories and creating traditions that I think they will always remember.

A grandparent has a special love for their grandchild. I think, in large part, it is because we realize how quickly this time passes and we actually stop and take time out of our busy-ness to spend quality time with these sweet blessings! They are truly a gift!

The thing that I pray they always remember is the fun times they have at Glammy’s house. But most of all, I hope they remember that we pray together and we talk about how much Jesus loves us! For that’s the best tradition of all.

Be blessed,

Vickie
