Love is patient…

1 Corinthians 13:4-8

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

Since today is Valentine’s Day, I thought it would be most appropriate to write about the “Love Chapter” from the Bible. 1 Corinthians 13 has always been one of my favorites. I can’t remember when or where I heard the following, but I’ve always thought it was great advice. When you read chapter 13, insert your name in every place where it talks about LOVE. For example, Vickie is patient. Vickie is kind. She does not envy, does not boast and is not proud. Vickie does not dishonor others, is not selfish and cannot be easily angered. She does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth. Vickie always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. LOVE NEVER FAILS.

Falling short

Well, I don’t know about you, but I don’t really ever live up to that standard and I need to work on that. I’m not always kind and patient with my husband. Sometimes I get agitated when I have to wait for him to complete a task that I’ve asked him to do. There are times I am pretty rude and selfish when he can’t read my mind and doesn’t do for me what I expect of him. Often, I become angered over petty things with my husband, my kids or my co-workers. When I do any of those things, I’m certainly not showing love. Finally, the verse says “love remembers no wrongs.” Oops.  Does that mean I shouldn’t bring up past mistakes that people have made? Or should’ve, could’ve or would’ve situations? Gosh, do your toes hurt like mine do?

God’s love

God is love. If I’m not showing love to others, I’m not showing God to others. Guess I have some working on myself to do….

Have a Happy Valentine’s Day with those you love!

Be Blessed,

  1. Boy Vickie you hit the nail on the head, tugged at some guilty feelings! But this totally makes sense, and a great reminder. These verses were read at mine and Greg’s wedding 26 years ago but I sure do need to go back and re-read them and put my name in the place of Love and try to do better. We forget and take our spouses for granted AND take our faith and God for granted. Thank you for the reminder. Love your blog and Love you always,
