The Feminine Heart
This weekend at our church, we had a ladies’ retreat hosted by our Women’s Ministry. Our guest speaker was Stasi Eldredge from Ransomed Heart Ministries. She spoke about The Feminine Heart and how God designed us, as women, with some core desires.
Desire to be Romanced
The first is that we long to be romanced. Why else would we be attracted to love stories, romance novels and weddings! Even if you don’t have romance in your life currently, remember that God is the great romancer. After all, He creates some amazing sunsets, some beautiful music when the birds sing and some incredible love stories. Our hearts desire to be desired and God does that by saying, “You will find me when you see me with your whole heart.”
Desire to be Needed, Essential and Irreplaceable
The second core desire is to be needed, essential and irreplaceable. When we are young mothers, we are certainly all three of these things to our children. Our children definitely need us, we are essential to their care, and it seems like no one else could possibly do our job. However, at my age, it seems, at times, that I am not as needed as I once was. My children have spouses who have taken on the role that I once had so I have been replaced (and that’s ok. That is God’s design!) However, with God, He doesn’t want to be on the sidelines of our lives or be replaced by other people or activities. He wants to be involved in every area of my life – my home, my job, my heart, and even my blog.
Desire to Feel Beautiful
Finally, a woman’s heart desires to feel beautiful. This weekend, our speaker talked about how little girls love to hear that they are pretty. They often want to twirl around in their pretty little dresses and they ask, “Daddy, do you think I’m pretty?” Women need to be told that they are pretty. Guess what? Even if no one else says you are pretty or you don’t feel too pretty, God thinks you are stunning. He thinks you are so pretty that He sent His son to die for you! You are the apple of His eye and no one is more beautiful than you!
It was a wonderful day of renewing and restoring my soul. I’m so thankful for our church and for the opportunity to grow as a disciple of Christ. I was also thrilled to take my 79 year old mom with me. What a blessing to worship beside her!
