Creating an Easter Tablescape

Easter is coming soon and nothing says Easter like a pretty tablescape! Recently, I decided to change up my Easter table by decorating a dough bowl.

What is a tablescape?

A tablescape, according to the Oxford Living Dictionary is a decorative arrangement of ornaments or other objects on a tabletop. You can find so many ideas on Instagram and Pinterest of great tablescapes. Some of my favorites can be found here.

I also gain tons of inspiration and ideas from blogs that I follow. Some of these ladies and I have teamed up to bring you some great ideas. Their blogs are listed below and I’d love for you to hop over to their sites and see all the inspiration you can get from them.

Using a dough bowl for a centerpiece

My centerpiece this year starts with a dough bowl. What is a dough bowl? In colonial America, dough bowls provided a snug, warm place in which bread could rise prior to baking. A good bowl was handed down through the family, passing along the memory of making bread in the kitchen.

My bowl, however, came from Hobby Lobby! My mother had a bread machine once and I remember the smell of bread baking in the kitchen. Maybe not quite the same, but you get the picture. Anyway, dough bowls have been popping up all over the decorating world and I thought it would be fun to create a pretty centerpiece for my Easter table using one.

Gather supplies

Dough bowls come in all shapes and sizes. I chose one that wasn’t too deep and if you are looking to purchase one, I would highly recommend that you stay away from the super deep ones because they require a lot of filler. These are the supplies that I gathered:

Steps to decorating your dough bowl

The first thing that you will need to do is insert your main focal point (mine is the bunny) and then decorate around it. Then add your filler. This could be greenery or larger flowers that you will use to take up most of the space.

After you have your focal point and filler done, then begin layering other flowers, greenery, etc. I chose to add a few floral pieces to add some color. Then I also added a green sphere to add some texture.

Next, I decided to add in a bird’s nest and some speckled eggs. Finally, I added some preserved moss mix just to fill in any empty spots. This particular moss mix had lots of variety of moss – some even had some beautiful color!

Complete your tablescape

This was seriously one of the simplest centerpieces to create. To complete the table decor, I added some yellow placemats, my white dishes, some new Easter napkins that I bought at Homegoods and my table was complete.

What do you have planned for Easter? At our house, we go to church, eat a good lunch that usually consists of ham and all the goodies and then have an Easter egg hunt! Whatever you and your family do, I hope that you remember why we have Easter…it is because of the resurrection of our Lord! Easter blessings to you!
