This week, we celebrated my hubby’s birthday and each year, I make him his favorite dessert. Granny’s cheese cake/cheese pie is a family tradition and such an easy treat. We have a long time family debate though. Do you call this dessert a cheese cake or a cheese pie? Our oldest son calls it cheese cake, but our youngest calls it cheese pie. They have argued about this for years! Our youngest says it is round and comes in a pie pan so it should be called a pie instead of a cake. What do you think? When we were in New York several years ago, we went into a famous cheesecake restaurant and they called it Cheese Pie. You can bet that our youngest son had to send a picture to his brother to prove that he was right!!!
Anyway, it wouldn’t be a birthday around here without this yummy cake/pie. Therefore, I wanted to share the recipe with you.
My husband’s mom passed away from cancer in 2009, but her delicious recipes still hang on. I don’t remember the year that I wrote out this recipe, but I clearly remember that it was early on in our married life. My mother-in-law had the notepad and I copied her recipe. I go back to it every single time. This recipe is different than most cheese cakes because you don’t have to bake it and it contains an ingredient that I’ve never seen before…vanilla pudding. I’m not sure if that is what gives it the creamiest, most delicious taste, but it certainly can’t hurt! I hope you enjoy it as much as my family does!
Be blessed,
Vickie
