Heart for Jesus

BECOME

Welcome 2021! I don’t know about you, but I was totally over 2020 and SO ready to head into the new year.

Are you a New Year’s Resolution type of person? If so, please feel free to share what you set for your goal for 2021. I found that making a resolution just made me feel guilty a couple of weeks later when I wasn’t following it. Instead of making a resolution, I now choose a “word of the year” to guide me.

A couple of years ago, I chose the word JOY and it helped me to become intentional at finding JOY all around me. I literally searched for ways to show JOY in my life. I even had JOY signs throughout my home and my office at school that helped me to focus on JOY all day long. Last year, my word was SURROUNDED. I wanted to intentionally surround myself in God’s word. I chose to read the Bible through using the Bible app on my phone. I highly recommend having the app to keep you moving right along. Reading the entire Bible this year helped me to draw closer to God and seek His word for guidance.

This year, I have chosen the word BECOME. Let me explain….

Thirty two years ago, I decided that I wanted to BECOME a teacher so I set out to finish the degree that I had started before marriage and kids. About 10 years later, I was encouraged to BECOME a principal so I set out to earn my master’s degree. Last summer, it was time to start thinking about how to BECOME retired!!!  Do you see the pattern here???

On December 14, I retired from the school district where I had been employed for almost 30 years. What an amazing career I had! It truly was a joy and great honor to serve the students of my community.

So, what do I BECOME now? Where is God leading me? I know in my heart that God has a plan for my life because His word says so. I have a pretty awesome story to tell you on another day about how God answered a prayer that I prayed this summer. But for now, I’m excited for 2021 and for what I will BECOME.

Stay tuned…..

Be Blessed,

  1. Thank you for being a blessing in my life, Vickie. You always encourage me to be a better person. I’m going to pick a word for myself and follow it with my heart. Thank you so much…

  2. I love this! I just read the article Lori shared with us – then I dug- read a few others- I always think about the WHY because of our ever changing educational world. I moved on to the article on WORTH – in the last two years I have struggled with self- worth and how I should tackle that in my roles. I guess when I decided to BECOME what I am today one decides how much one is WORTH in that position- to ourselves- to others! You may have become retired but your knowledge is WORTH a lot to me!

  3. Enjoyed learning about your “words”. Mine isn’t a ny resolution and it’s not just one word. In Oct.-Nov. I realized how complacent I had become. Not happy about it but willingly accepting all that I can’t do, I had quit pushing myself. It was then that the phrase “expect more” came to me. I have found this has motivated me physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.
