Blessing Bags

Are you looking for something to do with your kids or grandkids to help them understand their blessings? As you know, in the month of November, I love to count my blessings and to truly be thankful for all I have. I’ve even been doing a “Thankfulness Challenge” that you can read about here.

Gathering supplies:

I was recently spending time with the grandkids and wanted an activity they could do while learning to recognize their blessings. So I gathered the following items: Bugels, pretzels, dried cranberries, candy corn, M&Ms, pumpkin seeds, and Hershey kisses. I also printed out a label like this Blessing Bag on Avery8164 labels.

Be a blessing:

While we poured all of the ingredients in individual bowls, we talked about what it meant to be thankful for all that we have. Then I asked them some of these questions. Their responses are in italics.

What does it mean to bless someone? To do nice things for someone.

How could you bless your parents? To clean my room.

How could you bless your neighbor? If they are old, I could water their flowers.

How could you bless another kid in your class at school? If they drop something, I could pick it up for them. Or I could ask them to play at recess.

How could you bless someone you don’t even know? Give them food if they don’t have any.

I think my grandkids are pretty smart and understand exactly what it means to be a blessing! Then we talked about people who bless them. They mentioned their parents, their neighbors, their friends and their teachers.

Making the bags:

We started adding all the ingredients to the clear bags and as we did, we talked about all the many blessings that we have in our lives. It was a great way to spend time together, count our blessings and then give away a bag to someone who has blessed us. The grandkids were super excited to be able to give their Blessing Bags to their teachers on Monday!

Be Blessed,

Vickie
