Wisdom Spot 101 - Why that name?

Naming My Blog

STARTING A BLOG

I’ve always enjoyed writing and when I was a young mom, I would often write poems. My Ma-maw was a poet and I think I inherited some of her love for writing. About 12 years ago. I started a blog that was mostly just for my family. I wrote mostly about what was going on in our lives. Can you imagine the shock when, after taking about a 6 month break from blogging, I went to open up my blog and it wasn’t there! Come to find out, that blogging host site had been shut down. Luckily I had saved a few of my blog posts on my computer so I still had some of the content. This time, I really researched what blogging sites were the best to use so that wouldn’t happen again. WordPress was the answer!

NAMING MY BLOG

When I thought about naming my blog, I knew I wanted to write about several things: decorating, diet, family, Jesus, school….(not necessarily in that order – but that is alphabetical). I thought, “oh my, what in the world can I name my blog?” I’d recently started following some great women bloggers and began getting some ideas from them. My favorite blogger, Laura, can be found here.

I knew that, at my age, I had some things to share with young ladies. I often feel that I mentor the teachers at school where I am a principal. How could I mentor ladies who weren’t at my school? Could I somehow incorporate mentoring into my blog posts?

WISDOM SPOTS?

As I continued thinking about what to name my blog, thoughts went back to a recent dermatologist appointment. I was getting some dark spots on my hands and even had one come up on my face. I asked the doctor if these were “age spots” and he quickly replied, “Absolutely not! We don’t call them age spots, we call them WISDOM spots! When you reach a certain age, you bring with it lots and lots of wisdom!”

WISDOM FOR WOMEN

Well, there you go! That was the beginning of an idea. The next couple of weeks, I went back and forth about how I was going to design my blog and what I would focus on. I looked up scripture about wisdom and the verse that popped out to me was Proverbs 31:26 “She speaks with wisdom and faithful instruction is on her tongue.” I knew that God was directing me to that verse and that it would incorporate my ideas for mentoring other ladies, plus my “wisdom” that I could share with other women. At a ladies’ retreat at church that same week, the speaker talked about how a woman’s heart was designed by God and that a woman’s heart is wise to other women. I knew that God was speaking to me to use the “heart” part into my blog as well.

WISDOM SPOT 101

Therefore, this blog will be a woman’s wisdom about her heart for decorating, her heart for family, and her heart for Jesus.  I hope you follow me and enjoy the words of wisdom that I share from my heart. Plus if you have words of wisdom for me as I begin this journey, drop me a line or two. I would appreciate it more than you can imagine!

Be blessed,

  1. I just recently decided that I love to share my experience, strength and love. That blogging would be a perfect way to channel my energy. I was trying to narrow down my interests and come up with a name. I was at a loss. Coming across your blog was a God send. I need to pray about this first and ask for the Lord’s guidance. Thank you!!!
