Heart for Jesus

Love is Patient

This is Valentine’s Day weekend…the day of LOVE! Many of us think of Valentine’s Day as a day to celebrate the one you fell in love with. My hubby and I have been celebrating 36 years together and the LOVE keeps getting deeper and deeper. How do you celebrate Valentine’s with the one you love? Do you buy cards, gifts? Do you always have a date night? Some years we have gone all out and other years we haven’t done much of anything.

1 Corinthians 13

The love that I want to describe to you today comes from the Bible. 1 Corinthians 13 is known as the LOVE chapter because it talks about all things that have to do with LOVE.

“Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.” 1 Corinthians 13: 4-7

Do I show love?

When I read these verses in the Bible, they sound perfect! I love LOVE! However, I encourage you to read it again, but insert your own name each time the word LOVE is written.

For example: Vickie is patient and kind. Vickie is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. Vickie does not demand her own way. Vickie is not irritable….you get the picture, right?

So let’s reread it…

Vickie is patient and kind – oops, I think I lost my cool when I got behind the slowest car at the drive through window

Vickie is not jealous – eek, I sure was envious of my friend’s new car…

Vickie is not irritable – ouch! I just had my toes stepped on. I don’t think my hubby would agree with that statement!

I’m going to do better

As I go through the next few days, I’m going to be intentional about applying the LOVE chapter to my life. I want to be patient and kind. I want to be nice and never lose faith. I want to be always hopeful through every circumstance.

I hope that you have a day filled with LOVE! Just remember that God loves you more than anything, no matter what kind of day you are having. YOU are the apple of His eye and He sent His Son to die for you and for me. What greater LOVE is there?

Happy Valentine’s Day friend!

Be Blessed,

  1. These were the verses read at mine and Greg’s wedding. When I add my name “Janette is patient and kind”, etc… it really hits home! Love is never perfect, being married is never perfect but we know that God is perfect and He forgives when we are weak, He helps us to be stronger when we need it most, God always LOVES us and will never forsake us. Thank you for sharing.
