Can you believe we are already talking turkey? It is crazy to me how quickly time sees to fly! Before we know it, the decorating, shopping, wrapping, and parties will begin as we prepare for Christmas.
In order to make the holidays memorable at Glammy’s house, I always like to have fun things planned for the grandkids. I just asked Ellie last week what she loves to do at Glammy’s house and her top two favorite things were helping make chocolate chip cookies (my recipe can be found here) and playing hide-and-go-seek with Poppa.
One of the things we started playing a few years ago was Thanksgiving Bingo. All it takes is some time to print off cards like these, a bag of M&Ms for place markers and, of course, some prizes to give to the winners (of course, Glammy makes sure everyone ends up a winner with a prize).
A new game that I’ve got ready for the grandkids this year is called Roll-a-Turkey. This game requires game cards that can be purchased here, M&Ms and a pair of dice. I can’t wait until the grandkids see this new game. They are going to love it! When you go to that website, you will also see Thanksgiving kid table decorations and other games to make it tons of fun for the kids! For just a small fee (less than a Starbucks coffee), you can create a game or two that the kids are sure to enjoy!
Finally, we need to make sure that our kids and grandkids understand the meaning behind Thanksgiving and always being grateful for our many blessings. Before we give thanks for our meal, we always go around the circle and tell something that we are thankful for. If you want to get a head start on counting your blessings, head over to this post at WisdomSpot101.com and take the thankfulness challenge with me. Remind them, also, of some Bible verses about being thankful such as 1 Chronicles 16:34 “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever” or 1Thessalonians 5:16-18 which says, “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
Traditions are so important to establish at grandma’s house! I’m so excited to have my family here for Thanksgiving and can’t wait to play these games with the grands!
Be blessed,
Vickie
