Heart for Family, Heart for Jesus

Simply Christmas – Reclaiming the Gift of the Holidays

The pumpkins and the turkey dishes have been put away for another year. The leftovers have been thrown away (how many times can you eat turkey and dressing). The scale is still showing the effects of a big Thanksgiving meal. It is December.

December to-dos

For most of us, December brings on decorating, shopping, wrapping, cleaning, cooking, party planning, and trying to squeeze in all the things. What if, this year, we actually took the time to stop and reflect on what Christmas is really all about? What if we decided to reclaim Christmas for what it was intended to be?

Do you want things to be different?

What do you want out of this Christmas season? What is most important to you? Do you want your family to see that you are overwhelmed with the gift buying or that you are content when things aren’t perfect? Do you want to bless a family who has little or bombard your kids who already have too much?

As for me, I know I will be overwhelmed at times. (That’s what happens when you wait until December to start your Christmas shopping.) I definitely want to bless my grandkids with gifts even though their rooms are overflowing with toys.

What I really want

But I know that I want to spend a little more time with Jesus than usual. I want to read His word and ponder His thoughts this month. I want to draw closer to the One who Christmas is all about anyway!

This month, I’ll be sharing some insights as I read the book, Simply Christmas. This devotional book is written by Tama Fortner and she states that it is a “Busy Mom’s guide to reclaiming the peace of the holidays.” Doesn’t that sound wonderful? She also writes that “between holiday baking, hunting for the perfect tree, decorating the home, preparing for visiting relatives, and making sure everyone gets the ideal gift, Christmas can be anything but peaceful for a busy mom. Too often, the stress and busyness of the season make it difficult for her to find time to just sit and reflect on the wonder of the Savior’s birth. If this sounds familiar, allow Simply Christmas to be your personal invitation to slow down and savor the beauty of the manger this year.”

Giveaway!!! (Who doesn’t like free stuff?)

I am teaming up with Tama and we are going to give away this incredible book to five of you. All you have to do is head over to my instagram page and the directions will be there. You’ll definitely want to follow Tama as well so you can be inspired by her amazing posts. If you want to purchase the book, you can find it here.

I pray that you’ll be blessed by what I share this month. I’ll post some things daily on my Instagram stories so hop over there and follow me at wisdomspot101.

Let’s reclaim Christmas this year and bring back the joy that we so desperately need.

Be Blessed,

Vickie
